Greece was a minor power in South-Eastern Europe. It was invaded by Italy on October 28th, 1940, from their territory in Albania. The Italians proved to be a poorly trained and ill-prepared opponent, and the heavily outnumbered Greeks managed to not only defend their own territory, but make some minor advances in Albania. The arrival of a British Expeditionary Force to aid the Greeks, however, triggered a German response. German troops invaded their former ally, Yugoslavia, and then on the 6th of April, 1941 pushed through into Greece. The German faired much better than their Italian allies, and with Italian and Bulgarian help they managed to occupy Athens on April 27, 1941 and made it to Greece's southernmost shores on the 30th of the same month. Large portions of the Greek military and the aforementioned British Expeditionary Force escaped to the Greek island of Crete. Another German attack captured Crete and took a large number of Greek and British prisoners. After German surrender, Greece was restored to sovereignty, however a civil war ensued between pro-Soviet communist forces and pro-Western republican forces. Eventually, with American help, the republicans won this civil war, and installed a democratic pro-Western government.

Army[edit]

Greece's army was very poor in quality. It was divided in light infantry and some fresh-trained cavalry. They had not many tanks, because they couldn't manufacture them.But they got some later,from a British expenditionary force and from Greco-Italian battles. They had very little artillery again, only stolen from Greco-Italian battles. The only good about Greece's army was that the soldiers were full of morale, giving them the ability to reconquer Epirus from Italy.

Greece's navy was better than her army. It was some-kind technologically advanced,because one of its part was manufactured in Italy and the other in some well-built shipyards in Greece.
