Finland is a minor power in Northern Europe. Finland fought two wars against the Soviet Union: The Winter War from 1939-1940, where the Soviet Union claimed parts of Finland to be theirs, and the Continuation War from 1941 till the armistice of 1944.

Finnish Civil War in the early 1918 right after gaining independence from the Russian Empire at December 1917 tore the nation apart and left the newly formed Soviet Union hoping to absorb weak Finland back to its empire. Finland as mostly rural nation is seeking to industrialize and create welfare for its divided citizens while drifting towards the Western Nations in the 1930s. Finnish leaders are facing difficult choices and hard times as the Soviet threat increases when the tension in Europe rises.
