Land units and ships may be assigned to commanders, increasing their effectiveness in combat. Air wings do not have commanders, but may be assigned aces instead. Commanders may also train units, increasing their experience.

Skill level[edit]

Each commander has a skill level, which determines their overall effectiveness. Commanders gain experience when the units under their command engage in combat. With enough experience, they will advance a skill level.

Army Commanders[edit]

Army commanders can either be generals or field marshals. A general can command 12 divisions without any penalty while field marshals can command unlimited amount of divisions without penalty. Generals and field marshals can have up to 5 traits which they can earn by doing various task like a general that lead alot of battles against fortified provinces may learn the fortress buster trait. Each trait have a progress which is assumed to work similar to experience for skill levels, as soon as a trait reach 100% progress the trait is learned. A general can be promoted to a field marshal at the cost of one skill level and loss of all traits but the negative old guard trait.

General Traits[edit]

These traits can only be learned by a general and are lost if the general is promoted to a field marshal:

  • Trickster: Divisions get +25% better recon.
  • Winter Specialist: Divisions take 50% less attrition during Winter.
  • Engineer: Divisions have +10% Attack when crossing a river.
  • Fortress Buster: Divisions have +20% Attack when attacking a fort.
  • Panzer Leader: Armored Divisions move 5% faster, and have +10% in attack.
  • Commando: Any Out of Supply penalty for divisions is reduced by 50%.
  • Desert Fox: Divisions move 5% faster in desert terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Swamp Fox: Divisions move 5% faster in marsh terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Mountaineer: Divisions move 5% faster in mountain terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Hill Fighter: Divisions move 5% faster in hill terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Jungle Rat: Divisions move 5% faster in jungle terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Ranger: Divisions move 5% faster in forest terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Urban Assault: Divisions move 5% faster in urban terrain, and fight 10% better.
  • Naval Invader: Divisions prepare 30% faster for naval invasions, and perform them 30% faster

Field Marshal Traits[edit]

These traits can only be learned by a field marshal:

  • Logistics Wizard: Divisions have 20% less supply consumption
  • Offensive Doctrine: Divisions have 10% less Combat Width.
  • Defensive Doctrine: Divisions can get 30% higher entrenchment.
  • Fast Planner: Divisions Plan 10% faster.
  • Throrough Planner: Divisions can get 50% higher maximum planning bonus.
  • Organisational commander: Divisions have +2% Hourly Reinforce Chance
  • Inspirational commander: Divisons have 10% Higher Morale

Shared Traits[edit]

These traits can be learned by both generals and field marshals:

  • Old Guard: Reduces experience gain by 25%

Exercise[edit]

Divisions lead by a commander can Exercise. While exercising the divisions will get experience and the country will get land combat experience. While divisions are exercising they have a 1% increase in attrition of their equipment. Highest possible experience level attainable from exercising is regular. Units with regular and higher experience levels can't exercise.

Naval Commanders[edit]

The rank of a commander determines how many units they may command effectively.

Commanders may be promoted at the cost of one(?) skill level per rank.
