# The American Revolution # Civilization 4 (c) 2005 Firaxis Games # Created by - Jon 'Trip' Shafer -------------------- In 1775 the 13 British Colonies in North America broke out in open revolution against the empire and sought to forge their own path alone as an independent nation. Citing exploitive practices by the British Empire, the Colonists were angered over what they saw as unjust taxation, lack of representation in the British government, and in the case of some, loss of potential fortunes which could be made trading with other parts of the world.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]Following the Battles at Lexington, Concord and Bunker Hill the British are bottled up in Boston by the newly formed Colonial Continental Army led by General George Washington. However, the Colonies are fragile and have nowhere near the resources of a worldwide empire, so the situation is dangerous for both sides. Shall you help lead the Colonies into freedom or fight to keep the Empire intact? -------------------- This scenario was originally designed as a test to see what was possible to achieve through modding Civ 4. The basic concepts are relatively similar to the base game - manage production and military affairs and try to defeat your opponent. The structure and layout of the scenario is rather simple, relying on historical and semi-random events to provide some flavor but not relying on them or going in a very different direction from normal Civ gameplay. Putting together something like this is unlike creating content for any previous Civilization game. I anticipate the process of making scenarios by fans will be very similar to what the developers have gone through. Hopefully our forging ahead and breaking new ground will lead to a variety of exciting and enjoyable projects by modders across the world - which will make Civ 4 into something truly unique. For those who like playing scenarios, I hope that this will catch your eye and make for an enjoyable few hours. For modders I hope that this base will allow you to expand on what I've done and work on bigger and better projects. Whichever group you belong to, I hope you and everyone else gets something out of `The American Revolution`. Have fun! 'Til lata - Jon Thanks to Rhye for his flags, the guys here at Firaxis and Take 2 for testing and everyone out there for playing.
